WHAT IS MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPY?

Excercise Based Therapy

Myofunctional Therapy is based on highly effective exercises targeting the orofacial muscles, the tongue and the soft palate. It’s physical therapy for your mouth! These exercises are designed to ensure correct breathing patterns, tongue placement, speaking, chewing and swallowing for life.

The goal is to help patients become more conscious of their oral and facial muscles. When the tongue is resting in the right place and breathing is happening exclusively through the nose, many problematic symptoms become resolved.

When performing a comprehensive myofunctional exam, the primary focus is the airway. The tongue strength and position will have a significant impact on the airway. Other areas of concern examined during the exam are:

  • Head, Neck and Facial pain

  • Jaw Pain and Dysfunction

  • Facial Structure

  • Mouth Breathing Vs. Nasal Breathing

  • Snoring

  • Sleep Apnea

  • Speech Articulation

  • Tongue Tie

  • Orthodontic Treatment

  • Tonsils and Adenoids

  • Nasal Congestion

  • Habits such as thumb and finger sucking

Let’s work together to create a healthier, happier life for YOU!

My goal as a myofunctional therapist is to create a specific treatment plan designed to fit your individual needs.
